Following an association with a U.S. manufacturers' representative organization, Phil founded Phil Gold Agencies Ltd. in October 1977. Initially the territory being covered was Western Canada, from the Ontario/Manitoba border to Vancouver Island. The product mix was primarily RV and Van related and was accepted enthusiastically by all types of accounts. Growth was rapid, although controlled, and the second representative was added in June 1979, to assist in coverage of the territory.

As growth continued, and as a result of the constant urging, and encouragement of several of our major principals, Phil Gold Agencies expanded the territory to become a national organization by adding the third representative in Ontario to cover Eastern Canada. We have had as many as five people in the field for 15 years.

As pressures of increased responsibility mounted, the Phil realized that he could no longer continue to maintain his high standards, cover the newly Nationwide Territory, and run an office supervising other representatives alone. Therefore in the fall of 1981, Phil's wife, Lyvia, joined the organization, assuming responsibility for office management.

As stated above, lines initially where RV and Van Related. Today, however we are involved in many facets of the marketplace and have broadened our base with product lines related to light truck, RV, and van, high-performance, traditional, marine, and heavy-duty truck.
Times have changed, factories merging, customers are closing or being bought out and we have cut personnel. We have discontinued servicing electronics, food and drug, and hardware related items, and have concentrated on the markets we know best. Therefore today there are two of us in the field one in eastern Canada the other in the West.

As president and general manager, Phil has overall responsibility for all phases of the organization's operation and also serves his own accounts. His main function however is to maintain contact, continuity, and rapport with principals and staff, in order to activate manufacturers' policies and programs, and to develop further the territory for which he assumed responsibility.
